About Bohdana Smyrnova: Bohdana Smyrnova is a director and screenwriter known for her intimate, female-driven films. With a unique approach to script development, she utilizes improvisational techniques that give actors the freedom to explore their characters deeply, resulting in authentic and idiosyncratic portrayals on screen. Bohdana holds an MFA in Film Production from NYU, where she was a Dean’s Fellow, and a BA from the Karpenko-Karyi Institute of Theatrical Arts in Ukraine. She is an alumna of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival Residence and the ScripTeast screenwriting lab. Her short films have screened at over 350 international events, including Rotterdam IFF, Clermont-Ferrand, Slamdance, and Taipei Golden Horse, and have been released in French cinemas. Bohdana’s works have won over 30 awards and nominations. She has taught film at Syracuse and Wesleyan universities and is currently preparing her debut feature film, splitting her time between the USA and Ukraine.
